Arizona in 9th After First Round of John Burns Intercollegiate

LIHU'E, Hawai'i- The Arizona men's golf program concluded the first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate in 9th place, with a score of 289 (+1). Senior Ethan Marcus leads the Cats, shooting 70 (-2) at the Wailua Golf Course.
"Today was not very far off for our team," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "We made a few mistakes on Par 5's which is an area we typically excel. If we can clean that up tomorrow and make a few more putts, we will be in a position to make a move on the final day. I was proud of the team's poise today because we were just a little off. I know tomorrow will be much better and their patience will pay off. Ethan was outstanding today, especially having seen this course only once. He played a solid round and did a great job managing his game around a great golf course."
In his second tournament back for the Wildcats, Marcus tallied 14 pars to put him in 9th place in the first round. The senior from Boca Raton ranks top five in par three and par four scoring. This is Marcus' second lowest career round score, tying his 70 from the Duck Invitational in 2017.
Junior Brad Reeves sits in a tie for 31st, with a score of 72(E), with junior David Laskin one stroke behind him, tied in 42nd (+1). Sophomore Trevor Werbylo is tied in 57th (+2) and junior Briggs Duce is tied in 64th (+3).
Individual competitor Tianlang Guan finished day one tied in 64th with a score of 75 (+3)
