No. 22 Arizona Beats Cal Poly 4-3
02/28/2019 | Men's Tennis
San Luis Obispo, Calif. – The 10-1 Wildcats stretched their win streak to eight in a row after defeating the Mustangs 4-3. Arizona started the match by earning the doubles point, thanks to wins from the duo of Filip Malbasic/Alejandro Reguant on court two and the pair of Stewart Block/Jonas Maier on court three.
Arizona would go on to take a 3-1 lead after Reguant and Maier defeated their opponents on courts four and six. Malbasic clinched the 4-3 victory for the Wildcats after beating Antoine Noel 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on court two. The Arizona Wildcats are off to Santa Barbara to wrap up the two-game road trip Saturday against the Gauchos.
"There is something really special about this group," said head coach Clancy Shields. "They dug really deep today and found a way to get a good road win. Cal Poly is very tough to beat on their home courts, and they are very well coached. We have to be better in some areas and we have addressed it. Big ups to our emotional leader Stewart Block. He has been great in doubles and adds so much to our team. We will savor this victory and set our eyes on a very good UCSB team on Saturday."
The No. 22 Wildcats will look to extend their streak to nine Saturday in Santa Barbara against UC Santa Barbara at 1 pm (MST).
