PUERTO VALLARTA, Mex. -- It was a great start to the El Tigre Invitational for the Arizona women's golf team. The defending champions finished day one in solo first at 2-under-par.
Sophomore
Yu-Sang Hou led the Cats with a first-round score of 68 (-4). Hou ended the day in first place individually, a stroke ahead of second. Senior
Bianca Pagdanganan shot a fine round of 2-under, good for a tie for fourth. Freshman
Ya Chun Chang continued her strong play, recording three birdies on her way to a round of 71. Junior
Sandra Nordaas and senior
Haley Moore shot 5-over and 6-over respectively to round out the team competition. Senior
Desiree Hong carded a first-round 77 in the individual competition.
"Great start by Yu-Sang," said head Coach
Laura Ianello. "Bianca and Money were very strong as well. The conditions are not easy with winds and high temps. The ladies fought hard all day and their effort was tremendous. Yu-Sang was solid with her short game and made multiple birdie putts to build momentum. Haley and Sandra struggled with putting and I look for them to come back strong tomorrow."
Round two begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. MST.
