TUCSON, Ariz.- The Cats will be competing in the 12th edition of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic in Chula Vista, Calif. This will be Arizona's eighth appearance at the tournament, held at the century-old San Diego Country Club. The two-day tournament will be held at par-72 and begin on Monday, March 11th with an 8:30 A.M. PT shotgun start.
"Our team is playing with confidence right now as we play a familiar course at San Diego Country Club," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "This week starts over and we will need to reset and play with patience and poise because the greens will present a new challenge. The weather could be a factor and we challenge our guys to manage only the areas they have control over. We are excited to compete in San Diego where a lot of Wildcats reside too."
Arizona will be among another competitive field of fifteen teams, including Texas (8), Arizona State (9) and North Carolina (28). Ole Miss, St. Mary's (CA), Colorado State, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, Louisiana, Nebraska, Air Force, and co-host schools San Diego State and San Diego round out the competition.
Making the trip for the Cats will be sophomore Trevor Werbylo, juniors David Laskin and Brad Reeves, senior Ethan Marcus, and junior Briggs Duce. All five of the individuals made up the winning lineup for the Arizona Intercollegiate in mid-January. Werbylo is currently ranked 57th on Golftstat and has finished top-ten in four out of seven tournaments this season. Freshman Santeri Lehesmaa will be competing in the tournament as an individual.
