SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- The Arizona men's golf program concluded their second round at the Western Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The team is in eighth place, with a score of 718 (+18). Sophomore
Tianlang Guan shot a round of 66 (-4) at Pasatiempo GC, for a career and season low 18-hole record.
"We didn't have our best today," commented head coach
Jim Anderson. "We made some great swings and hit good putts, but didn't get rewarded the way we want. Playing in the morning is usually an advantage and we didn't execute to our full capabilities. The guys are comfortable on the course and we will have made all the necessary adjustments to post a great final round."
Junior
David Laskin tops the Cats scorecard, shooting his second 72 of the tournament to put him four-over par. Just one stroke back fro Laskin is Guan, who is now tied in 38
th. The sophomore from China rose 41 spots in the individual rankings after his round of 66 this afternoon. Guan tabbed six birdies in day two of the Western, with nine total, the fourth most in the tournament. This round tops his 67 in the second round of the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii earlier this season.
"Langly was tremendous today bouncing back from a tough opener" said Anderson. "His round really saved us and we believe a great round is right there for us tomorrow."
Junior
Briggs Duce is tied in 38
th with a score of 145 (+5). Rounding out the scores for the Cats are a 146 (+6) for sophomore
Trevor Werbylo and senior
Ethan Marcus, and a 147 (+7) from junior
Brad Reeves.
