TUCSON, ARIZ. – The University of Arizona track and field program will host the Desert Heat Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Saturday, April 27. The contest will be the final regular season meet for 16 student-athletes and one manager. It will also mark the first of four consecutive weeks of Arizona track and field action in Tucson.
"I am very excited about the Desert Heat Classic," said director of track and field Fred Harvey. "This is year two of the competition. It was one of the highlight competitions in the country last year, and I feel that the competition level is just as high this year. For us, the Wildcats, I am really looking for us to start fine-tuning. We absolutely should start seeing more competitive efforts from our team and putting ourselves in a position to have more confidence going into the conference championship. We are running everybody in their traditional events. Carlos will run the 800, but he may also do some pacing for the 1500-meter run to help that race. However, he will not run a whole 1,500 meters. Also, Bailey Roth) will run steeple, but probably run more of an elite pace type of 3000-meter steeplechase. He may not run the full steeple, but that is yet to be decided. The biggest thing is getting everybody fine-tuned and focused for conference."
