SACRAMENTO, Calif. –On the final night of the NCAA West Preliminary Round, the ladies 4x400-meter relay team of
Shannon Meisberger,
Tatum Waggoner,
Karolina Pahlitzsch and
Diana Gajda set an Arizona School Record and punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships. Overall, the Cats added six entries to the NCAA Championships on Saturday.
School Record
The ladies 4x400-meter relay team of Meisberger, Waggoner, Pahlitzsch and Gajda clocked time of 3:30.67 to set the Arizona School Record. The squad finished third in their heat to auto-qualify for the National Champinships in Austin, Texas.
Make It Three
Redshirt junior
Carlos Villarreal will compete in his third National Championship since November. The Rio Rico product clocked a time of 3:39.67 to finish first overall in the 1500-meter run.
The Knochness Monester
Sophomore
Jordan Geist will head to his fourth NCAA Championships to compete in the shot put discipline. He closed out the NCAA West Preliminary Round with a mark of 20.42m (67-0) to finish second.
Men's Relays Punch Tickets
Both the men's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams will head to the NCAA Championships in June. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Trevor Volpe,
Zakee Washington,
PJ Austin and
Umajesty Williams clocked a season-best time of 39.45 to finish second in their heat, third overall. The 4x400-meter relay team of Williams,
James Smith,
Maksims Sincukovs and Williams finished third in their heat to auto-qualify in 3:06.42.
Jumpin' to Austin
Junior
Justice Summerset will advance to his second outdoor NCAA Championships following his efforts at the NCAA West Preliminary Round. He cleared 2.16m (7-1) to finish eighth.
Up next, the Cats will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the NCAA Championships beginning on Wednesday, June 5th.
