EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Arizona women's golf team will begin its national championship defense at the NCAA Regionals on Monday. The Wildcats will be competing for one of the six spots that will be advancing from the region to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Arizona is the second-ranked team in the region, only behind conference rival Stanford, who the Cats have beaten three times this season. The Cats are coming off a strong performance at the Pac-12 Championships, where they finished runner-up to No. 1-ranked USC.
The Cats have been playing exceptional golf as of late, led by seniors Haley Moore and Bianca Pagdanganan. Pagdanganan won Pac-12 Golfer of the Month in March and received all-conference honors for the season. Haley Moore finished tied for 8th at the Pac-12 Championships to follow up a top-ten finish at Augusta National. Sophomore Yu-Sang Hou also received all-conference honors and finished tied for 8th at the Pac-12 Championships. Freshman Ya Chun Chang has continued to improve, finishing in solo fourth at the conference tournament. Junior Sandra Nordaas has been consistent all year long, finishing inside the top 40 in all but one tournament.
The regional consists of three rounds across May 6-8. This is only the second time a women's regional has been held at Forest Akers West Golf Course, the first time being in 2002. The Wildcats finished fourth in their regional championship last year on their way to a national title.
