Cats Rake in Three More National Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Three Arizona baseball players picked up postseason honors from national outlets on Thursday.
Catcher/first baseman Austin Wells and infielder/first baseman Dayton Dooney were both selected as members of the Perfect Game/Rawlings Freshmen All-America First-Team, while infielder Cameron Cannon was tabbed to the D1Baseball.com All-America Third-Team.
Wells finished his first collegiate campaign hitting .353 (78-for-221) with 73 runs scored, 15 doubles, seven triples, five home runs, 60 RBI, a .552 slugging percentage, a .462 on-base percentage, and more walks (46) than strikeouts (43). He set Arizona freshman season records in runs scored and on-base percentage and ranked among the top 10 Division I freshmen in triples, walks, RBI, OBP, batting average, hits, and total bases.
Dooney posted a .323 (52-for-161) batting average with 43 runs scored 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 53 RBI, a .596 slugging percentage, and a .417 on-base percentage in his freshman year. His 53 RBI were the third-most logged by an Arizona freshman since 1976, while his .596 slugging percentage stood as the 10th best mark among all Division I freshmen at the end of the regular season. Dooney's 10 home runs were twice as many as he swatted during his entire high school career.
Cannon led the Wildcats in 2019 with a .397 (92-for-232) batting average and collected 72 runs scored, nation-leading 29 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, and 56 RBI. He posted an on-base percentage of .478 and a slugging percentage of .651, both of which were among the top six marks in the Pac-12. He paced Arizona with 30 multi-hit games and tacked on 17 multi-RBI performances, which ranked second on the team. Cannon was recently selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.
