Wildcats Picked in the Top Half of Pac-12 Preseason Poll
08/12/2019 | Volleyball
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona has been selected sixth in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll, the conference announced on Monday.
Arizona received 65 points in the poll, three points shy of fifth-place Utah and two points ahead of seventh-place UCLA. Defending national champion Stanford was tabbed the favorite, receiving 11 first-place votes and 121 points, followed by USC and Oregon. The full poll is listed below.
The Wildcats' sixth-place selection marks just the second time in the last nine years that Arizona has been picked in the top half of the preseason poll, matching 2016's sixth-place prognostication as UA's highest since being tabbed fourth in the 2010 poll.
UA finished fifth in the league a season ago after being picked ninth in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll; the Cats' fifth-place finish was their highest finish in the Pac-12 since finishing third in 2014.
Arizona returns all four starters and 11 total players from a 22-win team a season ago, when the Wildcats appeared in their eighth NCAA Tournament in the last 10 years. Those 11 returners are joined by four newcomers -- three freshmen and one junior transfer.
