TUCSON, Ariz. – Keelah Barger finished in second and
Shem Kemboi took fifth on Saturday morning at the Cactus Open, Arizona's first cross country meet of the 2019 season.
On the women's side, the Wildcats placed five in the top 20 including Barger,
Bailey Johnson,
Lauren Neugeboren,
Alaina Kautz, and
Brigid Hanley.
On the men's side, the Wildcats placed four in the top 20, which included Kemboi,
Turlan Morlan,
Connor McCabe, and
Timothy Kibet.
"We have some work to do, but we have done some good work," said head cross country coach
James Li. "Keelah ran a good race, probably the best I have seen her run in a cross country meet, and Shem looked good too. It was a good first meet in a great setting."
The Arizona Wildcats will be back in action in two weeks on September 13 as they will host the Dave Murray Invitational. The first race begins at 4:45 p.m. MST at Randolph North Golf Course.
