TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona's eight-match winning streak came to an end on Thursday in Tempe, as the Wildcats dropped their Pac-12 opener to rival Arizona State in straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-21).

It was a sloppy match for the Wildcats (10-3, 0-1 Pac-12), who committed 12 service errors and hit .179 for the night. Arizona State (9-3, 1-0 Pac-12) hit .330 in the sweep.

The loss ended a four-match winning streak over Arizona State for Arizona. UA still holds a 52-44 all-time series advantage.

Elizabeth Shelton led the Wildcats with nine kills on .353 hitting while
Devyn Cross, who entered the match second in the NCAA in hitting percentage, improved her season number, hitting .583 with seven kills on 12 error-free swings.

The Wildcats face a quick turnaround and will head out Friday morning to face USC in Los Angeles on Saturday at 7 p.m. MST.

Set 1 (Arizona State 25, Arizona 20): Arizona State overcame a fast start from Arizona and defeated the Wildcats 25-20 in a competitive first set. Arizona made six hitting errors and had five service errors in the set.
