TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona volleyball 2020 commit Jaelyn Hodge has been named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year, The Gatorade Company announced on Monday.
Hodge led Basha High School to a 6A State Championship as a senior, recording 397 kills while hitting .320, including 33 kills in the state championship victory. Hodge also tallied 190 digs, 29 blocks and 24 aces; she concluded her high school career with 954 kills.
Ranked as the No. 20 recruit nationally by Prep Volleyball, Hodge is Arizona's highest ranked recruit since 2006 (Whitney Dosty). Hodge is a member of the Youth Junior USA Training Team.
"Jaelyn is one of the best prospects we've signed in a long time," said Arizona head coach
Dave Rubio on signing day in November. "She has all the tools; we haven't had an outside hitter like her in a really long time. She's full of potential. She's smooth and twitchy with elite jumping ability."
Hodge is the third Wildcat to be named Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year, joining Madi Kingdon (2010), Bre Ladd (2001).Â
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Hodge is now eligible for the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award, to be announced in January.
