IOWA CITY, Iowa – Arizona Track and Field closed out the first day of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday. This is the second meet of the 2020 indoor season for the Wildcats.

Highlights
Sophomore PJ Austin won the men's long jump with a PR mark of 7.55m (24-9.25), which is the tenth best mark in the NCAA.

Senior Justice Summerset took second in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.15m (7-0.5), giving him the 15th best mark in the NCAA. 

Junior Israel Oloyede won the men's weight throw competition with a throw of 20.44m (67-0.75), which is the 17th best mark in the NCAA.

Senior Aoife Martin threw a mark of 17.78m (58-4) to place second in the women's weight throw.

Sophomore James Smith clocked a PR of 1:17.69 in the 600-meter run to finish fourth.

Redshirt senior Megan Dulaney placed second in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.50m (47-7).

"I thought we had an exceptional first day," said head Track and Field coach Fred Harvey. "The competition level stepped up with some of the top collegiate athletes from some of the best schools in the country. The standout performance was PJ Austin winning the long jump. That is a top 15 type performance in the country. At this point to get to the championships, you have to be in the top 15. When you get marks like that, you know you're competing at the top level. James Smith, April Sutton and Shannon Meisberger also had great 600s. Overall as a team we did really well. They came together and competed at a really high level. We just have to put it together again for tomorrow. We will get our elite distance runners in the mix and see what we can do."
