Student-Athletes of the Month Named for September
10/12/2020 | C.A.T.S. Academics
TUCSON, Ariz. — C.A.T.S. Academics today announced that Keishawn Everly (Men's Track and Field), Peyton Heiden (Women's Track and Field / Cross Country), Abby Amos (Women's Tennis), and Jacob Meeker-Hackett (Football) have been selected as Student Athletes of the Month for September.
These students were recognized for their commitment to earning their undergraduate degree, the ability to maximize their academic potential, and their dedication to academic improvement and growth. They were chosen as Student Athletes of the Month by the C.A.T.S. Academic staff.
Everly is a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas. He is a Literacy, Learning, and Leadership major who has made 17 appearances with Arizona since 2018 and is a former Texas State Champion in 100 and 200 meter-dashes.
"Keishawn embodies what it means to be Student-Athlete of the Month and he absolutely deserves this recognition. His work ethic shows he is serious about his education and his sport," learning specialist Kelly Amsler said. "He is always looking to learn and improve, whether it's in the classroom or on the track, and he is involved in other Arizona Athletics Student-Athlete Development programs such as Men & Women of Purpose and PAL. Keishawn has a very 'go with the flow' attitude, while standing strong in his convictions, speaking his mind, and standing up for others. He is selfless, self-motivated, and a self-starter."
Heiden is a sophomore from Redondo Beach, California. She is a Psychological Science major who, during the 2020 Indoor season, clocked a PR time of 5:00.49 at the MPSF Championships.
"Peyton has been an outstanding student since the first day she stepped foot on campus," counselor Corey Talley said. "Peyton goes above and beyond in the classroom and has consistently been on the Dean's List. As a sophomore she is stepping up and taking on more of a leadership role amongst her athletic peers. Excited to see what is in store for Peyton, the future is very bright!"
Amos is a senior from Leicestershire, England, and is a part of the Educational Psychology Graduate Program. During the 2020 season she maintained a winning record in doubles. Prior to Arizona, she came into college ranked No. 6 among all Juniors in the United Kingdom.
"Abby has been a great addition to the tennis program," counselor Max Krieger said. "Prior to joining the team, we knew she would be high-achieving academically and she has only reinforced that while at the University of Arizona. Abby has also shown that she handles adversity very well with her tennis season being cut short last year and so much uncertainty about this season and still being able to excel academically. We are glad to have Abby back for one more year!"
Meeker-Hackett is a Redshirt Senior from Tucson. He is an Animal Sciences major who has not yet competed for Arizona, but has stood out in academics at the U of A.
"Jacob needed to take a large amount of courses this summer to make sure he met degree requirements," counselor Corey Talley said. "He took on a large course load and finished with perfect grades. Great work Jacob, way to step up to the challenge."
