VIRTUAL RED OUT

Arizona Football welcomes Arizona State to Tucson for the 94th edition of the Territorial Cup on Friday at 5 p.m. (MST) on ESPN. The rivalry game will also be Senior Day as we recognize the dozen Wildcats who are capping their careers as student-athletes. Celebrating the accomplishments of these outstanding young men in our program is always a memorable celebration, and we will recognize these Wildcats during the pregame activities.

UNDEFEATED CATS

mbb

It was terrific to see Coach Miller and the Wildcats open the season with three consecutive wins, including Monday's dominant victory over Northern Arizona. I want to congratulate Jemarl Baker Jr. on his outstanding performance against the Lumberjacks as he became the first Wildcat to score 30 or more points in a game since Deandre Ayton in the 2018 Pac-12 Tournament.

As this email is going out, the Wildcats are facing CSU Bakersfield in their fourth game of the season amid a stretch of four games in seven days. The bookend of this busy stretch of games will be the rescheduled UTEP game on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. (MST) on Pac-12 Networks. Bear Down and Go Cats!

HISTORIC START

wbb

Arizona Women's Basketball has picked up where it left off last season as it continues to re-write the record books. Arizona is up to sixth in the national polls, setting a new program record for highest national ranking ever.

The Wildcats have won their first three games of the season, including the toppling of No. 9 UCLA in McKale last weekend. The 68-65 win over the Bruins marked Arizona's first-ever victory in a game of two top-10 ranked teams, and it was followed by Aari McDonald breaking the 30-point mark for the tenth time in her career in a thrilling victory over USC.

Coach Barnes and company will welcome Arizona State to McKale Center on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. (MST) on the Pac-12 Networks. Best of luck Cats and we will be tuning in!

A GOLF CHANNEL CAT

werbylo

All-American Trevor Werbylo of Arizona Men's Golf is set to compete and represent the Block A in the star-studded College Golf Showcase as one of the top collegiate golfers in the nation. You can tune in to Trevor hitting the links in Scottsdale on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. (MST).
Seeing a Wildcat on the course before the team opens up their season in the inaugural Copper Cup versus Arizona State January 17 and 18 in Maricopa will be exciting!

STRONG START IN THE POOL

swimming

Arizona's swimmer and divers opened their seasons in dominant fashion last weekend. Our men and women swept Grand Canyon on the swimming side with impressive showings in individual and relay races, which included sophomore Axana Merckx winning multiple individual titles.

Arizona's diving squad opened the year at the NAU Diving Invite in Flagstaff and brought home more wins. All-American Delaney Schnell won the platform and one-meter dive events as she returned to collegiate competition for the first time in nearly two years.

Reigning Pac-12 Freshman Diver of the Year, Bjorn Markentin, won the platform dive title on the men's side. Eric Correa also posted personal bests at the event as the Wildcat divers opened the year in impressive fashion.

COMPLIANCE CORNER

In order to be eligible for competition, a student-athlete must always meet amateurism and academic criteria. The NCAA sets academic benchmarks for each semester and year of full-time collegiate enrollment in order to progress the student-athlete toward earning his or her diploma. These benchmarks include meeting a certain percentage of credits towards their declared degree program each year and maintaining a specified minimum GPA. The Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is a performance metric that states the percentage of student-athletes which complete their degrees. For the second consecutive year, Wildcat student-athletes have broken their GSR record! You can read more about it here.

Although we always strive for excellence in the classroom and in uniform, Arizona Compliance asks that our Wildcat community help keep our student-athletes ready for competition by not compromising their academic eligibility. Click here to view the Academic Integrity protocols.
