TUCSON, Ariz. --Â The Arizona Wildcats (6-3) got superlative performances on the mound, at the plate, and in the field to put together a 5-1 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas (6-4) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Starting pitcher
Garrett Irvin (3-0) controlled the game for 6.0 innings, holding the Chippewas to just one run on three hits while striking out eight. The dominant outing from the junior southpaw secured his third win of the year in as many outings.
The Wildcats offense came alive in crucial moments as well. After Central Michigan took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, Arizona immediately answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame to bring the game back even. The Cats then scored twice in the sixth inning to take the lead and added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.
Arizona's defense also found a groove, putting together their second errorless game of the year that included a trio of impressive plays from shortstop
Jacob Blas.
