Arizona Kicks Off Spring Season at Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The Arizona women's golf team makes its spring season debut on Sunday at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Wildcats are part of a stacked field that includes top-ten teams like Arizona State, Stanford, Texas, Kent State, USC and Florida.
The Cats are looking to improve on their fifth-place finish last year, after ending the tournament at 32 shots over par. Conditions were tough in 2019 as the eventual winner Stanford posted a team score of 15-over.
Arizona will be without three of its top players: Yu-Sang Hou, Vivian Hou and Ya Chun Chang. All three will be competing in the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific. The Wildcats will be rolling with senior Sandra Nordaas, junior Hollie Muse, freshman Gile Bite Starkute, freshman Therese Warner, and freshman Kailie Vongsaga. Vongsaga will be making her first collegiate start on Sunday.
The Wildcats last competed at the Pac-12 Preview in Hawai'i, winning the tournament and moving up to third in the Golfweek rankings to conclude the fall season.
"We're excited about this upcoming tournament to start off the spring season," said head coach Laura Ianello. "This lineup is going to be a little unique, but we're very excited to have some new players in the lineup such as Kailie Vongsaga. You'll see players that you saw in the fall like Hollie Muse, Gile Bite Starkute, Therese Warner and Sandra Nordaas. It's a unique lineup because Yu-Sang and Vivian Hou along with Ya Chun Chang will be playing in Thailand for the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific. We're going to be missing them, but this is going to be a great opportunity for our other five young women to show us what they got. It should be a great week in Los Angeles against many top teams."
Play begins at 10 a.m. MST on Sunday morning.
