TUCSON, Ariz. --
Alyssa Denham allowed two baserunners over six nearly perfect innings and the fourth-ranked Wildcats won their 10th straight game, 6-1, over Indiana to close out the Wildcat Invitational.
Denham (9-1) retired the first 13 batters of the game before allowing a single to break up the perfect game bid. An error would plate an unearned run in the fifth inning, the lone run of the game scored by the Hoosiers. She fanned eight and did not walk a batter. She was the second Wildcat to take a perfect game bid into the fifth inning this weekend after
Mariah Lopez did so in her one-hitter vs. South Dakota on Friday night. Denham was relieved by
Marissa Schuld in the seventh; the sophomore retired all three batters she faced.
Arizona was carried offensively by a four-run third inning, but kept constant pressure on Indiana starter Emily Goodin, who entered the game with a 1.76 ERA. In all, the Cats plated their six runs on eight hits, including a home run from
Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza, her seventh, and doubles by
Jessie Harper and
Izzy Pacho.
Palomino-Cardoza's homer marked her second in as many days and extended her hitting streak to seven games, the longest active by a Wildcat. She has reached base in 12 straight games and all but one game this season.
Hanah Bowen led the Wildcats with two RBI, a run-scoring single in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Palomino-Cardoza, Harper,
Malia Martinez and Pacho also brought home runs for the Wildcats.
The win was the 10th in-a-row for Arizona, which completed the four-game sweep of the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday. Arizona, which improved to 21-3 on the year, will continue its homestand with four games at Hillenbrand Stadium next week, starting with a Tuesday contest vs. St. Joseph's. Arizona then starts Pac-12 play with a three-game series vs. Oregon State, Friday-Sunday .
