#ThrowbackThursday: 1993-94 Pac-10 Champions

TUCSON, Ariz. – The seventh installment of our #ThrowbackThursday series takes a look at the 1993-94 team that went 14-4 in Pac-10 play and advanced all the way to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Arkansas.

Arizona began the season winning its first eight games before a one point loss to Kentucky at the Maui Invitational ended the winning streak. The Wildcats claimed regular season non-conference wins against the likes of Oklahoma State, Utah, Notre Dame, Boston College, Michigan and Marquette.

In the NCAA Tournament, Arizona opened with a win over Loyola (Md.) and Virginia the first weekend and followed that with triumphs over Louisville and Missouri in the regional round.

Below is a look at the roster, season results and more from that team.

Notes
  • Senior guard Khalid Reeves earned All-American honors and was the Most Outstanding Player of the West Region in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Reeves averaged 24.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists for the season. His 848 points scored still stand as the Arizona single-season record, as does his scoring average for the season. His 1,925 career points still rank fifth in school history.
  • In addition to setting the Arizona school record for field goals made (276, later tied by Deandre Ayton), he also set the school record for free throws made in a season (211), which was later surpassed by Derrick Williams in 2010-11.
  • Junior guard Damon Stoudamire was an honorable mention All-American and joined Reeves on the all-west region team of the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds – at 5-foot-10 – and 5.9 assists.
  • Reeves and Stoudamire combined to average 42.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists.
  • Junior forward Ray Owes nearly averaged a double-double with 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Joseph Blair was right there with Owes, posting 10.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.
  • Sophomore guard Reggie Geary was the perfect role player for the team, averaging 7.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
