TUCSON, Ariz. — C.A.T.S. Academics announced that
Jordan Mains (Men's Basketball),
Umajesty Williams (Men's Track & Field),
Dana Parker (Beach Volleyball), and
Alexa Porpaczy (Women's Track and Field / Cross Country) have been selected as Student Athletes of the Month for December.
These students were recognized for their commitment to earning their undergraduate degree, the ability to maximize their academic potential, and their dedication to academic improvement and growth. They were chosen as Student Athletes of the Month by the C.A.T.S. Academic staff.
Mains is a Sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz. pursuing a degree in Business. After being the Student Manager his Freshman year he joined the team in 2020. Prior to Arizona he won two state championships with Pinnacle High School.
"Jordan Mains is a Sophomore Men's Basketball student-athlete, majoring in Pre-Business and has excelled in the classroom," Counselor
Andy Salgado said. "Jordan had a perfect fall semester and continues to maintain a high GPA."
Williams is a Junior from Scottsdale, Ariz. who is majoring in General Studies. In the 2020 indoor season he took second place in MPSF Championships in the 400-meter race and 200-meter sprint. In the 2018 Outdoor season he was the Pac-12 4x400-Meter Relay Champion.
"Maj exudes sincerity, critical thought, and passion. Through the chaos and setbacks of these challenging times, Maj has positioned himself as a team leader and performed his best in the classroom," Learning Specialist
Kelly Amsler said. "A phenomenal student-athlete with unique academic and career interests, he excels under pressure, has a fantastic sense of humor, and is sure to impress anyone he meets! I'm very grateful to have worked with Maj and am excited for all he will continue to be and do."
Parker is a Junior from Flagstaff, Ariz. pursuing a degree Public Health. In the 2019 season she was awarded the 2019 AVCA Top Flight Award (Flight 5) and finished with one of the best Freshman seasons in UA history (25-5). Before the 2020 season was cut short her personal record was 8-3.
"Dana impresses me the most because of her incredible work ethic towards school and athletics," Counselor
Max Krieger said. "The course load she takes each semester as a Public Health major shows her dedication to be successful. She always has a positive attitude, even towards a heavy work load and difficult courses."
Porpaczy is a Sophomore from White Rock, British Columbia, Canada, majoring in Political Science. In the 2020 indoor season se never finished blow the top 3 in the high jump and qualified to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the high jump.
"Alexa just capped off another great semester here at the UofA. Since she arrived on campus, Alexa has been a pleasure to work with. She works hard in the classroom and is a model student for others to follow," Counselor
Corey Talley said. "Her hard work has paid off both in the classroom and in her sport, seeing tremendous results in both realms. Looking forward to seeing what is to come for this spring."
