TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats fell in three sets to Washington State to close out the weekend. Freshman
Puk Stubbe had a career high 16 kills and hit .467 against the Cougars.
Set 1 | Arizona - 18, Washington State - 25
Stubbe led the attack for Arizona with six kills to open the match against Washington State. Despite Stubbe's strong offense, the Cougars took the first set 25-18. Two kills apiece from
Jaelyn Hodge and
Sofia Maldonado Diaz and a block from Hodge and
Zyonna Fellows helped the Cats tie the set three times before Washington State won the set.
Set 2 | Arizona - 20, Washington State - 25
In the second set, the Wildcats turned to Maldonado Diaz's five kills to lead the offense with assistance from Stubbe who had four kills in the set. Fellows led the defense with three block assists to tie the set nine times. Although Maldonado Diaz and Stubbe combined for nine kills, Washington State edged out the Wildcats 25-20 to take a two-set lead in the match.
Set 3 | Arizona - 20, Washington State - 25
The Cougars took the third set 25-20 to win the match. Stubbe had six kills in the set, totaling 16 kills in the match for a career performance from the right side. Arizona took the lead at 13-10 on a four-point run with kills from Hodge, Maldonado Diaz, and two from Stubbe before Washington State came from behind to win the set.
