TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona GymCats mounted a furious comeback attempt in the final rotation on Saturday afternoon, but fell just short of the Washington GymDawgs. Arizona posted a 193.975 to Washington's 194.125.
The GymCats 49.050 on floor was tied for their second-best score of the season in the event. It was driven by four-of-six Arizona gymnasts posting scores above 9.8.
Castles earned her third Gymnast of the Meet honors on Saturday afternoon. The freshman from Fleet, England posted a 9.800 on vault, a 9.825 on beam, and a 9.725 on floor. Her 9.825 on beam won the event.
Vault
Arizona opened the afternoon with a 48.775 on vault.
Malia Hargrove paced the GymCats and finished tied for third on the event with a 9.825. Castles added a 9.825, tying her previous career-high.
Uneven Bars
The GymCats moved on to bars next where they logged a 48.900, their best mark in the event since the season opener at Utah.
MacKinzie Kane bested her season-high mark with a 9.825 to lead Arizona in the event.
Sirena Linton and Baily McCabe contributed with a pair of 9.8s.
Balance Beam
Castles notched 9.825 on beam to lead the GymCats and win the event. Arizona posted a 47.250 on beam.
Floor Exercise
In what has emerged as the GymCats strongest event, the group posted a 49.050 on floor. Four Arizona gymnasts posted routines above a 9.8 in the final rotation comeback effort.
