TUCSON, Ariz. --Â An offensive onslaught led the Arizona Wildcats (2-2) to an 11-5 victory in their series finale over the visiting Ball State Cardinals (2-2) on Monday morning. The win secured a series split for the Wildcats.
Arizona scored at least one run in every single inning, marking the first time they accomplished the feat since beating Alabama State 18-3 on April 28, 2013. The Wildcats offense combined for 14 hits and eight walks in the early morning contest.
Starting pitcher
TJ Nichols, making his collegiate debut, worked five strong innings for Arizona. The tall right-hander allowed just two runs and struck out three on 74 pitches to earn the win. He even added a heads-up defensive play in the third inning to turn a double play and shut down a Ball State scoring threat.
