Wildcats Pick Up Three Event Wins at Arkansas Qualifier

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Track and Field competed at the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday, putting up three PRs, one top five NCAA mark and three event wins.

Highlights
The Wildcats swept the shot put contests with Jordan Geist and Samantha Noennig winning their respective flights and each setting a new Arkansas Qualifier meet record. Noennig increased her season best mark with a throw of 17.75m (58-3), giving her the second best mark in the NCAA while Geist threw for 19.69m (64-7.25), maintaining his current spot at sixth in the NCAA.

Lillian Lowe won the high jump contest with a clearance of 1.78m (5-10) and Alexa Porpaczy placed third overall with a mark of 1.73m (5-8). Diana Ramos placed in the top 10 as well and Skylar Sieben came up just short of a new PR in the event.

Twins Johnnie and Alyssa Blockburger made their collegiate debut with Johnnie placing third in the 400m with a time of 47.02 and clocking 48.08 in the first leg of the men's 4x400m relay. Alyssa came up with a top 10 finish in the 800m and ran 55.66 in the second leg of the women's 4x400m relay.

Coming off of a school record breaking performance, Israel Oloyede threw for 20.19m (66-3) in the weight throw, placing second.

Tanner Hagstrom made his 800m season debut, setting a new indoor PR of 1:51.64 and finishing fourth.

Tiana Poirier-Shelton marked a big PR of 12.20m (40-0.5) in the triple jump, placing eighth.

In the pole vault, Tanner Kippes cleared a PR of 4.91m (16-1.25). On the women's side, Katie Daily cleared 3.85m (12-7.5), matching her current PR.

"This meet paints an extremely good picture for the season because the athletes that we feel will make it to the NCAA championships showed us exactly why we believe that today," said head coach Fred Harvey. "They put up top 20 performances in the country and we have three men that didn't run this weekend in the 4x400, which is an event we have a chance of being in the top 5 in the country. All of the athletes showed us they are capable and we just have to keep piecing it together."

Next up, the Wildcats will travel to Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Shootout on Feb. 12 and 13.
