WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — The Arizona GymCats posted a 195.400 in Session 1 and ultimately finished sixth at the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday, marking the programs best finish in the event since placing sixth in 2016.
Arizona's young group of gymnasts finished the afternoon strong, posting a 48.875 on beam and a 49.150 on floor to move their way up the leaderboard. Across the two final rotations, the GymCats notched three 9.9s.
The Pac-12 Championships marked the final scheduled meet of the 2021 season, with postseason play in an NCAA Regional potentially on the horizon.

Vault
Arizona opened the first session on vault, where they posted a 48.600. Senior
Payton Bellows led the way with a 9.755, while
Caroline Herry was not far behind with a career-high 9.750.
Uneven Bars
Next the GymCats competed on bars and notched a team score of 48.775. Two GymCats scored above a 9.8 on the event, with
Elena Deets pacing the lineup at 9.875 and
Malia Hargrove following with a 9.825. Deets' 9.875 was tied for the Session 1 lead in the event.
Balance Beam
The third rotation found Arizona on beam, where they logged a 48.875. Hargrove and
Sirena Linton were the co-leaders on beam in Session 1 as both posted a 9.900 — it marked a career-high for Hargrove.
Floor Exercise
The GymCats finished the session on floor and they logged their third-best score of the season on the event, going for 49.150. Freshman
Jessica Castles led the lineup and tied for second in the session with a career-high 9.900. Three more GymCats joined her with scores at or above the 9.800 mark.
All-Around
Hargrove was the only GymCat to compete in the all-around and posted a 39.150, the second-best score of her career.
