TUCSON, Ariz. — Another dominant pitching performance and a 15-run offensive explosion propelled the Arizona Wildcats (16-6, 3-2) to a 15-2 victory over the No. 16 Oregon Ducks (11-6, 2-3) on Saturday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
The win was the third straight for Arizona, and clinched a series victory over the No. 16 Ducks for the Wildcats.
Starting pitcher
Garrett Irvin (1-1) was brilliant, settling into a groove early and coasting to 7.0 one-run innings. He allowed just six hits and struck out four to earn his first win of the season.Â
Arizona fell behind 1-0 early but found a quick answer in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from
Tanner O'Tremba. They went on to out-score the Ducks 14-1 over the remainder, putting up crooked numbers in the third, sixth, and eighth innings to put the game completely out of reach.
The top three batters in the Wildcats lineup —
Donta Williams,
Jacob Berry, and
Branden Boissiere — combined to go 8-for-14 with seven runs, six RBI, and four walks.
