Wildcats Fall in Extras to Cardinal, 5-4

STANFORD, Calif. — The Arizona Wildcats (31-12, 15-7) dropped a 13-inning thriller, 5-4, to the Stanford Cardinal (25-9, 11-5) on Friday night at Sunken Diamond.

The Cats received heroic work from the bullpen, with five pitchers combining to hold Stanford to just two runs (one earned) on six hits over 7.0 innings with 14 strikeouts. Right-hander Quinn Flanagan worked 4.0 frames and struck out seven but was saddled with the loss.

Starting pitcher Chase Silseth went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts. He did not factor into the decision.

After a flurry of late-regulation runs even the game at four, both teams combined to hold each other off the scoreboard for four and a half innings before the Cardinal's breakthrough in the 13th.
