STANFORD, Calif. — The No. 9 Arizona Wildcats (32-13, 16-8) dropped their series finale to the No. 16 Stanford Cardinal (26-10, 12-6) on Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond.
Sunday's loss handed the Wildcats their first Pac-12 series loss in seven weeks and set up a three-way tie atop the conference standings between Arizona, Stanford, and Oregon with three weekends remaining in the regular season.
Starting pitcher
Austin Smith (2-1) took his first loss of the year despite allowing just one run on three hits across 3.1 innings of work.
The Wildcats trailed 5-0 entering the seventh before mounting a two-run rally.
Kobe Kato lifted a sac fly to left center for Arizona's first run of the game, followed by an RBI single from
Donta Williams to cut the deficit to three. However, Stanford would go on to plate three runs across the seventh and eighth innings to secure the win.
