Three Wildcats Named ABCA All-Americans

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball outfielder Donta Williams, designated hitter Jacob Berry, and catcher Daniel Susac have all been selected as All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced last week.

Williams and Berry were both honored as First Team All-Americans, while Susac was tabbed to the Second Team. This marks the first time since 2015 that Arizona landed three ABCA All-Americans, and the first time since 1968 that the Wildcats boasted multiple First Team selections (Tim Plodinec, Jerry Stitt).

The ABCA All-America teams are the oldest All-America teams in college baseball and the only ones selected by coaches across the country.

Williams, who developed into one of the nation's premier center fielders, played in 62 of the Wildcats 63 games in 2021 and hit .342 with 81 runs scored, 17 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, and 49 RBI. The dangerous leadoff hitter set career-high marks in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI. Williams' 81 runs scored led the Pac-12 Conference this year by a dozen and currently rank second nationally. His performances at the plate and in the field, where he logged a .974 fielding percentage, earned him Pac-12 All-Conference and All-Defensive Team selections.

Berry, one of the most dangerous designated hitters in the country, hit .352 as a true freshman with 54 runs, 19 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs, and 70 RBI. His team- and Pac-12-leading 70 RBI are the most ever logged by an Arizona freshman and currently rank third in the nation. Berry tied for the team lead in 2021 with 28 multi-hit games and paced the program with 21 multi-RBI performances.

Susac, Arizona's everyday slugging catcher, finished the season hitting .335 with 48 runs scored, 24 doubles, 12 home runs, and 65 RBI. His 24 doubles led the team, shattered the program's previous freshman record, tied for first in the Pac-12, and ranked tied for fifth nationally. Defensively, Susac posted a .996 fielding percentage and threw out nine of 30 attempted base stealers from behind the dish. He has been named an All-American by every major national outlet and was selected as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year by the league's coaches.

Williams, Berry, and Susac helped guide the Wildcats to their 18th College World Series appearance and a final record of 45-18. Arizona's 21-9 mark in Pac-12 play, achieved through major contributions from these three All-Americans, was the second-best conference mark in program history.
