Cross Country to Open Season at George Kyte Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats are set to kick off the 2021 cross country season on Saturday at the George Kyte Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Competition will begin at 1:30 p.m. MST with the men's 4.5 mile race followed by the women's 2.5 mile race at 2:30. Live results can be found here.

"I'm super excited about the way the team has been practicing," said head cross country coach Bernard Lagat. "The athletes have been training very well all summer long and the confidence that I have seen in everyone on the team is really great. It's exciting getting back into a normal season, competing in the fall again like all of us are used to. We want to make the most of this season and we're all excited to get it started in Flagstaff."

Five newcomers will be making their cross country debut: Aurora Barkley, Tenley Hughes, Cole O'Donnell, Cade Russo and Ayden Schilb.

"The newcomers are adjusting rather quickly," said coach Lagat. "They have been working so hard and learning very fast, on both the men's and women's side. I credit that a lot to our returning athletes. They've been showing them the way and making them feel welcome."
