Wildcats Break More Academic Records in Fall Semester

TUCSON, Ariz. – Nearly a decade of unparalleled success in the classroom by Arizona student-athletes continued in Fall of 2021 as Arizona Athletics posted its highest Fall overall semester GPA in department history with a 3.157. Last semester marked the seventh consecutive year that Arizona has broken its Fall overall semester GPA record.

"Our continual record-breaking success in the classroom is a point of pride for our university, athletics department and community," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "We have set a new Fall semester GPA record in each of the last seven years, which is a tremendous accomplishment for our student-athletes as well as our C.A.T.S. Academics staff. We keep raising the bar of academic achievement and accomplishment to new heights, and Wildcat student-athletes continue to fulfill our Wildcat Way mission of developing academic, athletic and life champions."

The latest record-breaking semester saw 66.1% of all student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or higher with 42.8% of Arizona's student-athlete population posting at least a 3.5 GPA. An impressive 15 of Arizona's program posted a 3.0 GPA or higher as a team with the top marks belonging to Beach Volleyball at 3.695 and Men's Tennis with a 3.510.

Arizona's historic academic success last semester also saw Jill Aguilera of Arizona Soccer earn the school its 11th CoSIDA Academic All-American award in the last three years and the second of her career.

The athletics department continues to post record marks in other key academic metrics as well. Its Graduate Success Rate score of 86 percent, released by the NCAA in December, was its second highest GSR score ever.

This unprecedented run of achievement in the classroom by Arizona student-athletes represents the robust fulfillment of the department's "Wildcat Way" mission that provides student-athletes the opportunities to become academic, athletic and life champions.
