ACADEMIC COUNSELING
Each of our 17 teams has a designated Academic Counselor to provide exceptional academic support throughout their time as a student-athletes at the University of Arizona.
- Guidance through the students' transition to the University, adjustment to academic life on campus, and assistance with personal challenges encountered throughout their college experience.
- Academic planning, including major selection and course scheduling for degree requirements that adhere to NCAA, PAC-12, and University requirements for academic eligibility.
- Tracking system of student-athletes' academic performance during each semester, and their progress toward graduation in their chosen academic program.
STRATEGIC LEARNING SERVICES
The Strategic Learning Services (SLS) program provides direct, individualized academic support to student-athletes. Learning Specialists, Assistant Learning Specialists, and Program Coordinators work to develop support structures for students. Staff members work one-on-one or in small groups with student-athletes who can benefit from individualized skill instruction, multimodal learning strategies, or assistive technologies. This collaboration guides student-athletes to ensure their: (1) smooth transition into the University of Arizona, (2) ability to recognize and access resources, and (3) utilization of beneficial study strategies.
LEARNING SPECIALISTS
Learning Specialists work with small caseloads of students based on academic level and guide students in reaching their academic potential. ADD IN ADDITIONAL: (i.e. organization, test prep, reflection, etc.)
PROGRAM COORDINATORS
Program Coordinators hire, train, manage, and schedule our student-workers while working with Learning Specialists to create our programming.
ASSISTANT LEARNING SPECIALISTS
Assistant Learning Specialists guide and support students during one-on-one appointments and study hall.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES
In addition to the Strategic Learning Services (SLS) program C.A.T.S. Academics offers:
• Tutoring – content specific support from a peer student (Tutor) who has successfully mastered the coursework, in either one-on-one or small group settings
• Content Labs – writing and math specific support from a peer student (Tutor) offered in a individual or small group environment
• Monitored Study Hall – scheduled time to work individually on course work, monitored by peer students serving as Desk Attendants (DAs)
