TUCSON - Arizona Athletics is proud to celebrate Native American Heritage Month each year. It allows us to share the incredible stories of some of our amazing student-athletes, both past, and present.
This year will be no different as we plan to highlight these stories throughout the month and collaborate with campus and corporate partners on philanthropic initiatives supporting Native American students.
On Wednesday, November 16, Arizona Athletics staff, coaches, and student-athletes will have the opportunity to attend a Native American educational session led by Robert Miguel, Chairman of the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The session will cover information about the land our university sits on, the twenty-two tribal nations of Arizona and more.
On Friday, November 18, we will host our annual Native American Heritage Night women's basketball game, including a special halftime performance, a presentation of tribal flags, and recognition of Native American Alumni scholarship recipients, sponsored by Desert Diamond Casino.
Arizona Athletics will also take to social media throughout the month to highlight our stories as we continue to emphasize our core values on diversity and inclusion from the strategic plan. The A-Club will focus on letterwinners of Native American descent as they reflect on their time at the University of Arizona and the importance of this month. For more information, visit

Land Acknowledgment
The University of Arizona sits on the original homelands of Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Aligning with the university's core value of a diverse and inclusive community, it is an institutional responsibility to recognize and acknowledge the People, culture, and history that make up the Wildcat community. At the institutional level, it is important to be proactive in broadening awareness throughout campus to ensure our students feel represented and valued.
