TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona and head football coach
Jedd Fisch have agreed to a contract extension through the 2027 season with new financial terms that include a total compensation of $16.3 million over five years, which were approved by the Arizona Board of Regents on Tuesday. Updated details include a proactive commitment of additional financial resources for the coaching staff. In two seasons as head coach, Fisch has elevated the program on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
"I fully believe that Coach Fisch is the right man to lead Arizona Football into a new era," said University of Arizona President Dr. Robert C. Robbins. "He has brought a new level of energy and excitement to Arizona Football, for our student-athletes and for our fans. With a top-20 recruitment class this past year, an outstanding season, and the kind of integrity and dedication we value at the University of Arizona, he has earned this vote of confidence. His care for our student-athletes and his commitment to their success is second to none, and I am excited for the bright future he is building for this program."

The four-win improvement in Fisch's second year was one of the largest win increases in a single season in Arizona history. The 2022 season saw the Wildcats defeat No. 9 UCLA at the Rose Bowl, which was Arizona's first top-10 win on the road since 2015. The team went on to defeat Arizona State in the Territorial Cup to cap the season, ending its in-state rival's five-game winning streak in the series.
"Jedd's leadership and vision have elevated our football program in every facet during his first two seasons," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "Jedd and his staff have built a foundation of excellence that is rooted in the mission and values of the University of Arizona. There is incredible excitement around Arizona Football throughout Southern Arizona, the state of Arizona and across the nation, which is a credit to Jedd's commitment to building Arizona Football the right way. As we continue to strategically invest in our football program, we anticipate a successful future and look forward to Arizona Football being a strong point of pride for the entire Wildcat Family."
Arizona's development and growth on offense was historical as quarterback
Jayden de Laura threw for 3,685 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2022, which ranked sixth and third respectively in program history for a season. Wide receiver
Jacob Cowing finished his 2022 season with 85 catches for 1,034 yards, which were the third-most catches and the seventh-most yards in a season by a Wildcat. His 85 catches were the most by an Arizona wide out since Bobby Wade's 93-reception season in 2002. Fellow receiver,
Tetairoa McMillan, finished his freshman season with 39 catches for 702 yards and eight touchdowns. His 702 yards were the most ever by an Arizona freshman and his yardage and eight touchdown catches were tops among all FBS true freshmen during the regular season. McMillan and offensive lineman
Jonah Savaiinaea made Arizona the only school with two honorees on 247 Sports Freshmen All-American team.
These notable individual accomplishments propelled Arizona's offense into becoming one of the most improved in the nation. Arizona went from the 124
th in the nation in scoring offense in Fisch's first season to 48
th in 2022. Similarly, Arizona rose to 22
nd in the NCAA in total offense in 2022 after finishing 101
st the year prior.
"My family and I are extremely grateful to the Arizona Board of Regents, President Robbins, Dave Heeke and the entire University community for their commitment to what we are building as a football program," Fisch said. "These new contractual terms will allow my staff and I to continue elevating all aspects of Arizona Football as we recruit and develop the next generation of Wildcats. I would like to thank all our student-athletes, coaches and staff who have played key roles in getting our program to where it is today. I am also grateful to our community and Wildcat Nation for supporting our football program, and I can't wait to see Arizona Stadium filled with red and blue in the future. Bear Down and Go Cats!"
The successful start to his tenure has been highlighted by historical recruiting success. Arizona signed its highest rated recruiting class ever in 2022 that ranked at the top of the Pac-12 and in the top 25 nationally. The program's elite recruiting was bolstered by the addition of key transfers in the portal. Player development has also been a staple of the program with a litany of offensive players rewriting the record book this season.
Arizona Football has also posted record-breaking success in the classroom during Fisch's first two years as head coach. The program has set its all-time high GPA in any Fall and Spring semester since Fisch was named head coach in December of 2020.
Community engagement has developed as a calling card under Fisch's leadership. The program initiated a variety of outreach programming throughout the state of Arizona that fueled an increase in home attendance. With an increase of nearly 10,000 fans per game during the 2022 season, Arizona ranked first in the Pac-12 Conference and 11
th nationally in year-over-year attendance increase.
