SPRINGFIELD, MASS.  – On Tuesday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced its 10-person watch list for the 2022 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award and Arizona's
Bennedict Mathurin was included on the list.
Â
Named after Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its eighth year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.
Mathurin, a native of Montreal, is averaging 17.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists through 19 games for the seventh-ranked Wildcats. He's also shooting 45.7% from the field and 36.5% from the 3-point line while his 18 steals are tied for second on the team. He was named the National Player of the Week earlier this year and won back-to-back Pac-12 Player of the Week honors as well. Mathurin was also named to the Wooden Award Late Season
Top 20 Watch List yesterday.
Â
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. In late February, the watch list of 10 players for the 2022 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award will be narrowed to 5.
