Cats Sweep Second Day of Mary Nutter

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The No. 8 Wildcats improved to 10-3 as they beat Bethune-Cookman (4-8) and UC Davis (5-5) on day two of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
 
Game 1 – Arizona 8, Bethune-Cookman 1
Arizona beat Bethune-Cookman 8-1 to start the day. Sharlize Palacios hit her fifth home run of the season.
 
Carlie Scupin went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Izzy Pacho went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Allie Skaggs had a career best three hits.
 
Arizona scored one run in the second and followed up with three runs in the third inning. Scupin hit a two-RBI single and Pacho hit a sacrifice fly to score Arizona's third and fourth runs.
 
Bethune-Cookman scored one run in the top of the sixth, but Arizona put four runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Palacios hit a two-run homer, then Scupin and Pacho each hit RBI doubles to secure the 8-1 victory for Arizona.
 
Jessie Fontes (1-0) picked up the win in her first complete game. She allowed only one run on five hits and struck out seven batters from Bethune-Cookman.  
 
Game 2 – Arizona 3, UC Davis 0
The Wildcats swept the day with a 3-0 win over UC Davis. Janelle Meoño hit her first double of the season and Jasmine Perezchica went 3-for-3.
 
The Cats put a run on the board early in the first inning. In the fourth, Carroll hit an RBI single to score Arizona's second run. Scupin also had an RBI single in the fifth to give Arizona a 3-0 lead.
 
Madi Elish (1-1) earned the win in Arizona's second game of the day. She did not allow any runs and struck out two batters. Devyn Netz relieved Elish and allowed no runs on no hits.
