TUCSON, Ariz. — Another day, another hero. This time it was
Chase Davis' two home run, six RBI performance that lifted the Arizona Wildcats (16-4, 5-1) to a 10-3 victory over the Stanford Cardinal (9-8, 1-5) on Monday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Monday's come-from-behind victory, the Wildcats third of the series, secured Arizona's first sweep over Stanford since the 2015 season.
Davis did it all for Arizona, smashing a game-tying two-run home run in the sixth to even the game at 3-3 and a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth to put the Cats out in front for good. It was the first grand slam of his career, and the first by a Wildcat since
Tony Bullard on May 28, 2021 against Dixie State.
Arizona's 5-1 mark to open conference play is their best since the 2007 squad went 8-0 to kick off their Pac-10 slate.
Starting pitcher
Dawson Netz worked five innings for Arizona and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four. He did not factor into the decision.
Right-hander
Quinn Flanagan came on in relief of Netz and was brilliant over the final four frames. The tall righty fanned five Stanford batters and allowed just one hit to hold the Cardinal scoreless. Flanagan earned the win to move to 3-1 on the year.
