TUCSON, Ariz. — Former Arizona Baseball outfielder, Cal Stevenson, made his Major League debut with the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, becoming the 90th Wildcat in MLB history.
Stevenson earned the call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday morning and started in center field for the A's later that afternoon, batting ninth.
Â
He collected his first Major League hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, an infield single to shortstop, and scored his first career run in the bottom of the seventh after drawing a leadoff walk.
Â
Stevenson finished the day going 1-for-3 at the plate with one run scored and one walk.
Â
Across two seasons with the Wildcats in 2017 and 2018, Stevenson hit .302 with 108 runs scored, 28 extra-base hits, and 56 RBI. As a junior in 2017 he led the Pac-12 in runs scored and walks.
Stevenson was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2018 MLB Draft and spent time in both the Houston and Tampa Bay organizations before being traded to Oakland in July 2022.
