TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Cross Country team swept the competition at the
Dave Murray Invitational on Saturday, with victories for both the men and women.
"We're excited this morning for the results that happened today," said Head Coach
Bernard Lagat. "The women winning in a fantastic fashion with what was almost a perfect score. And then the men also came out, all the freshmen did a great job, everyone was supportive, and again they almost had a perfect score," said Lagat.
The women's team had four finishers in the top six for the 6k, with
Grace Driskill placing third overall after running a 20:28.5 to once again finish first for the team. She was followed by
Sailor Hutton who ran a PR of 20:32.7 to finish fourth overall.
Mia Chavez (20:42.0) and
Alisa Lyesina (20:42.1) also posted new PR's while finishing fifth and sixth overall. Additionally, three more runners for the women improved their personal bests:
Brigid Hanley, who ran a 21:35.5,
Beatrice Honebrink, who ran a 22:05.3, and
Tenley Hughes, who ran a 22:05.9.
The men's squad had five freshmen finishers in the top nine for the 8k, and three runners within the top four.
Ian Sanchez Lopez finished second overall and first for the team, with a PR time of 23:57.5.
Brennan Foody (24:04.2) and
Iker Sanchez Lopez (24:07.0) followed closely behind to finish third and fourth overall with new personal bests.
Cooper Quigley ran a PR of 24:19.8 and finished eighth overall, while
Noah Jodon ran a 24:20.5 to place ninth.
Logan Marek, who ran a 24:55.7, and
Parker Lehmann, who ran a 25:46.2, also improved their 8k PR's.
The women won with a total team score of 34 and the men came out on top with a score of 26. The Wildcats also had 12 of their 17 runners post improved PR times.
"We're looking forward to what is happening with this team," said Coach Lagat. "The fans and the golf course here at Tucson Country Club helped us a lot so we thank you and thank everybody who came to support this team."
