TUCSON, Ariz. — Wildcat outfielder
Chase Davis picked up a pair of Preseason All-America selections on Monday, earning a spot on the Third Team from
Baseball America and
D1Baseball.
Today's honors bring Davis up to four total Preseason All-America nods, after having previously landed on the Second Team with
Collegiate Baseball and
Perfect Game.
Across 63 games last season, in his first opportunity as a full-time starter, Davis impressed with a .289 batting average, 56 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, a team-leading 18 home run, and 54 RBI. He also drew a team-best 48 walks to produce a .414 on-base percentage. Davis' 18 home runs were tied for third most in the Pac-12 last season and stand as the sixth-most in a single season in program history. Some of his best work at the plate came during the postseason, where he hit .346 with nine runs, four extra-base hits, and six RBI across eight starts and earned Coral Gables NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team honors.
Davis' defense was also crucial to the Wildcats success last year, posting a .979 fielding percentage with two outfield assists while contributing numerous highlight reel catches in left field.
Following his Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention performance last season he was invited to participate in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, making him the 21st Wildcat all-time to earn the honor of playing with the CNT.
Davis and the Wildcats kick off the 2023 season at the MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale beginning with a matchup against No. 2 Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 17. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. MST with a national television broadcast on MLB Network.
