TUCSON, Ariz. — Starting February 1, Arizona Athletics is excited once again to kick off a month-long celebration of Black History Month (BHM).
The student-athlete-driven movement will feature numerous events and recognitions throughout February that help promote history, belonging, and unity. This year's campaign will feature recognitions of current student-athletes,
letterwinners, and community members throughout the five men's basketball home games in February.
For the department's first event of the month, Arizona Athletics will sponsor
"A Fireside Chat with Stacey Snowden," presented by the African American Museum of Southern Arizona at the Loft Cinemas on Friday, Feb. 3.
Fans will enjoy a traditional Capoeira performance by the local Black-owned dance studio, Movement Culture, during halftime at the women's basketball game against Colorado on Feb. 17 and the men's basketball game on Feb. 25 vs. Arizona State.
As in years past, all Arizona student-athletes will receive a Black History Month shirt that will be worn on-court and on-field during warmups before February games.
Morgan Rhett (track & field) has secured a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal that includes her contributing as a model for BHM merchandise sold at the university bookstore. Merchandise for the 2023 BHM line is available
here. The bookstore will donate a portion of all sales to the African American Student Affairs center.
Internal events for Arizona Athletics staff and student-athletes will also be held throughout the month, including a panel session with two student-athletes
who represented the University of Arizona in Alabama for the Pac-12 Social Justice Experience.
