Fifita Earns Conference-Record 5th Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor
TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita earns his conference-record 5th Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor and Tetairoa McMillan takes home the Offensive Player of the Week following the Wildcats lopsided win over Arizona State.
Quarterback Noah Fifita threw for a single-game and Territorial Cup record 527 yards on 30-of-41 passing for five touchdowns. Fifita broke Anu Solomon's passing record of 520 yards in the 59-23 win over Arizona State last Saturday. The margin of victory was the largest road margin of victory in the Territorial Cup, topping the 35-point victory (35-0) in Tempe in 1953.
The 59 points marked the most that Arizona has scored against Arizona State on the road in series history. Fifita has set a new conference record after earning the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor for the 5th time. It is the most that a single player has won the award since its creation in 2019.
Wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan finished with 266 yards receiving and one touchdown. It marked the second-most receiving yards in a single game in program history. He finished 17 yards shy of the record (283; Jeremy McDaniel, 1996. McMillan's 266 yards were the most by any player in Territorial Cup history. This is the first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Honor of the 2023 season for McMillan. He took home the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor twice in 2022.
McMillan recorded 162 yards receiving in the first half, marking the second-most by an Arizona player in any half since 2012.
The Wildcats earned their ninth win of the season to finish 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the Pac-12. The eight-win improvement from 2021 to 2023 is the largest two-year in program history. Arizona earned four wins on the road for the first time since 1998.
Arizona finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak for the first time since the 1998 season. The Wildcats' nine wins are their most since going 10-4 in 2014. It is just the seventh time in program history that Arizona has won nine-plus games in a season.
The Wildcats now await their first bowl selection since 2017 on Sunday, Dec. 3.
