MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Arizona Men's and Women's Swimming landed in second place at their mid-season invitational with a total score of 1,455, following behind No. 4 California who scored 2,360. Also at the invitaitonal was hosts Minnesota, Harvard and Ball State.
Saturday
The Cats closed out the weekend with one top-three finish from
Julia Heimstead on Saturday in the 200 Fly with a 1:55.14 (NCAA B cut).
Friday
Arizona clocked three individual and one relay top-three finishes Friday night. Senior
Julia Heimstead brought home the only first place win of the weekend with a 51.61 (NCAA B cut) in the 100 Fly event.
Tommy Palmer took third in the Men's 100 Fly,
Beck Parnham took third in the 400 IM and Arizona's A relay
Will Meyers,
Jadan Nabor,
Ryan Purdy and
Ralph Daleiden took second and a B cut in the 400 Medley relay.
Thursday
The Cats wrapped up Thursday with 11 individual NCAA B cuts, 2 relay cuts and a school record.
Sophomore
Ralph Daleiden stunned in Minneapolis when he broke a 16-year-old school record in the 100 Free event with a time of 42.00 seconds during a time trial. The record was previously set at the 2007 National Championships.
Also in the final top-three was standout freshman
Kelsey Wasikowski earned herself a third place spot and a B cut in the Women's 200 IM event with a time of 1:59.33. Senior
Ryan Purdy also showed out in the 200 IM event, taking 2nd place and securing a B cut with a 1:43.99.
Wednesday
On day one the Wildcat women started off with a strong second place 200 Medley finish from 'A' relay
Paige Armstrong,
Maddy Ahluwalia,
Julia Heimstead and
Alyssa Schwengel. The team secured Arizona a B cut with a time of 1:36.60, dropping 1.85 seconds off their entry time.
On the men's side, Arizona brought home a third place finish from 'A' relay Ogi Maric,
Seth Miller,
Ryan Foote and
Tommy Palmer. A time drop of 4.33 seconds resulted in a second 200 Medley B cut for the Cats with a time of 1:24.03. Arizona grabbed another second place finish and B cut from 'A' relay
Ralph Daleiden,
Orion Henderson, Haakon Nuaghton and Ogi Maric with a 6:16.52, just .05 off from an A cut qualifying time.
Arizona is back at it December 17 for the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas.
