TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 20 Wildcats picked up two run-rule victories on the second day of the Bear Down Fiesta to improve to 24-12 this season. Arizona shutout San Diego, 10-0 (5 inn.), in the first game and run-ruled Georgetown, 12-4 in five, in the second game.
Olivia DiNardo,
Dakota Kennedy, and
Allie Skaggs all homered during the second day. Kennedy walked-off both games of the day.
Game 1 | Arizona 10, San Diego 0 [5 inn.]
Arizona shutout San Diego for the second day in a row behind a complete-game from
Devyn Netz and a walk-off grand slam from Kennedy.
The Cats struck first with three runs in the first. Netz drove in the first run on an RBI single and a two-RBI single from
Blaise Biringer brought in the other two runs.
Netz retired seven straight Toreros in the middle innings before Arizona exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, a trio of RBI singles gave Arizona a 6-0 lead. Kennedy hit her second grand slam of the season to end the game.
Netz improved to 11-9 with the win, allowing only one hit and striking out three batters in the game.
Game 2 | Arizona 12, Georgetown 4 [5 inn.]
The Cats won the second game, 12-4, in five innings over Georgetown to complete the sweep of the Bear Down Fiesta. Kennedy went 4-for-4 with a walk-off single and DiNardo went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Arizona plated three in the second inning on a pair of RBI singles from
Tayler Biehl and
Jasmine Perezchica and a sacrifice fly from
Sophia Carroll. The Hoyas tied the game in the top of the third on a three-run home run.
In the third, the Cats scored three more to make it a 6-3 game. Biehl had a sac fly while Carroll and
Paige Dimler hit back-to-back RBI doubles.
The Cats added five more in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-3. Skaggs opened scoring with a solo home run – her 10th homer of the season – and DiNardo blasted a two-run shot to right field - her fifth homer. Biringer drove in a run on an RBI double and Dimler had a sacrifice fly to close out the inning.
Georgetown scored one run in the top of the fifth, but Kennedy walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
Ali Blanchard (6-1) picked up the win and struck out four batters in the circle.
