Wildcats Lose in Five Innings to UCLA

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 24 Arizona lost the final game of the series, 14-5 in five innings, to No. 2 UCLA on Sunday.
 
Dakota Kennedy led Arizona with two home runs and three RBI. Allie Skaggs also had a home run to bring her to 11 total homers this season.
 
UCLA opened the game with a four-run first inning and added two runs in the second for a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Blaise Biringer took advantage of a Bruin error to score Arizona's first run.
 
In the third, the Bruins scored one run on a Wildcat error to give them a 7-1 lead. Kennedy and Skaggs hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the third to cut into UCLA's lead.
 
UCLA hit two more home runs in the top of the fourth and scored five runs in the fifth to make it a 14-3 game.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Kennedy hit her second homer of the game – a two-run shot to right field – but it wasn't enough to keep the Cats in the game.
 
Devyn Netz fell to 11-12 on the season after giving up the first four runs to UCLA. Arizona emptied its bullpen with Ali Blanchard entering in first relief. Blanchard struck out two in 1.2 IP and gave up two runs. Brianna Hardy entered the circle in the third inning, giving up three runs in 1.2 innings. Aissa Silva relieved Hardy for 0.1 innings and gave up two runs. Sydney Somerndike pitched the final inning, allowing three runs to score.

Arizona will begin a four-game road trip at Grand Canyon on Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. MST on ESPN+. The Cats will then head to Oregon beginning Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. MST on ESPNU.
