STANFORD, Calif. — The Arizona Wildcats (27-22, 10-17) outlasted the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal (34-14, 20-7) in a 21-20 slugfest on Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond.
The Wildcats offense was electric from start to finish, posting a season-high 21 runs on 20 hits (nine of which went for extra bases) and eight walks. Left fielder
Chase Davis and first baseman
Kiko Romero both homered and drove in six runs. Right fielder
Emilio Corona and second baseman
Mason White also both swatted home runs and drove in four runs apiece.
Arizona jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a first inning home run from
Chase Davis, his 17th of the season and the 35th of his career. The wild game included five lead changes and two ties, one of which came with the Cardinal down to their final strike in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Starting pitcher
Aiden May did not factor into the decision after his 3.0 innings of work. Right-handed reliever
Chris Barraza worked the final five outs of the game for the Wildcats and earned his fourth win to move to 4-2 on the year.
Sunday's game concludes the Wildcats road portion of their 2023 conference schedule. They will finish up their Pac-12 slate with a three-game series against USC starting next Thursday, May 18.
