PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (23-19) fought for 12 innings but ultimately fell on a final score of 4-3 to the Grand Canyon Antelopes (27-19) on Tuesday night at GCU Ballpark.
Third baseman
Tony Bullard sent the game to extras with his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot that led off the top of the ninth inning and knotted the game at 3-3.
Center fielder
Mac Bingham (2-for-4) and shortstop
Nik McClaughry (2-for-6) led the Wildcats offensive efforts with a pair of hits apiece. First baseman
Kiko Romero also earned his way on base three times via a hit and two walks.
The Wildcats bullpen was spectacular, at one point stringing together 8.1 scoreless innings. Freshman right-hander
Casey Hintz (2.1 IP) and fellow righty
TJ Nichols (2.0 IP) both contributed multiple scoreless, hitless innings to the effort.
Starting pitcher
Jackson Kent did not factor into the decision after striking out a pair over 3.1 innings of work.
