TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona women's basketball has added four members to its staff, as announced by head coach Adia Barnes on Wednesday. The program has added Anthony Turner as assistant coach, Lauren Flaum as director of basketball operations, Ryan Thorne as director of recruiting operations and Kyle Hutson as video coordinator.
ANTHONY TURNER
Turner joins the Arizona staff as an assistant coach after four seasons at Weber State. During his time in Ogden, Turner helped coach Daryn Hickok to All-Big Sky honors in three consecutive seasons. Hickok and Jadyn Matthews rank 11th and 17th, respectively, in Weber State program history in career points. Matthews additionally checks into the career rebounds rankings at fifth with 823.
Prior to Weber State, Turner was associate head coach for three seasons at Utah Valley. Turner coached Sam Lubcke to a spot on the All-WAC Newcomer team in 2017 and Jordan Holland to membership on the All-WAC Second Team in 2019.
Stops before Utah Valley included New Mexico, Boise State, Oregon State UNLV and San Diego State. Players that Turner recruited to New Mexico accounted for six first team All-MWC awards, two All-Defense awards, two All-Freshman awards, one Sixth Player of the Year award and the 2019 MWC Player of the Year in Jaisa Nunn. During his initial season at Oregon State, Turner helped the program to a 20-win season for the first time in 20 years. He additionally recruited two Pac-12 All-Freshman team players, one First Team All-Pac-12 player and one Pac-12 All-Defensive team honoree to the Beavers program. While at UNLV, the team tallied four trips to postseason play in six seasons, including an appearance in the championship game of the WNIT.
Turner graduated from the University of Colorado in 2008. He and his wife Jaime have twin daughters, Alexis and Justice.
LAUREN FLAUM
Flaum comes to Tucson after three seasons as director of basketball operations at Tulane. She will assist the staff with scheduling, budgeting and making travel arrangements alongside other duties.
Before Tulane, Flaum spent seven season on Toledo's women's basketball staff. Flaum coordinated or assisted in various administrative areas, oversaw budgets, maintained databases for the staff, assisted with compliance activities and fundraising and served as the Toledo Women's Basketball Fan Club liaison. In addition, Flaum was the Rockets' video coordinator and assisted with breaking down game film for the coaches.
Flaum graduated from the University of Eastern Michigan in 2009 and began her career at her alma mater as a graduate assistant video coordinator for both the women's and men's basketball programs from 2009-12. Flaum completed a master's degree at Eastern Michigan in 2011.
RYAN THORNE
Thorne joins the staff in a full-time role as director of recruiting operations after spending four years as the program's graphic designer and photographer. He started working with the program in 2019 while earning his bachelor's degree, including for its 2021 run to the National Championship game. Thorne will be responsible for overseeing all recruiting logistics, assisting with on-campus visits and managing recruit information as well as social media content.
Thorne graduated from the University of Arizona in 2023.
KYLE HUTSON
Hutson moves to Tucson to after four years with Columbia women's basketball. He spent two seasons with the Lions as a graduate assistant before moving to a full-time video and analytics role in 2021.
Before his time at Columbia, Hutson spent two years as a stat auditor for the NBA, working out of the NBA's Secaucus headquarters. He communicated with in-arena statisticians during games to confirm play-by-play descriptions and statistics. Hutson additionally worked as a video scout for Sports Info Solutions in Allentown, Pa., compiling and analyzing data for baseball and football games.
Hutson graduated from the University of Arizona in 2015 and earned a master's degree in sports management from Columbia University in 2021. He grew up in St. Louis, Mo., and has eight Arizona graduates in his family.
