TUCSON, Ariz. – Four Wildcats earned recognition from the Pac-12's All-Conference for the 2022-23 season. Senior
Chase Sienkiewicz was voted a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection while junior
Sam Sommerhauser received All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades. The freshman tandem of
Filip Jakubcik and
Zach Pollo were both selected to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. The yearly honors mark the third time in the last 20 years that four Wildcat golfers have received all-conference awards.
Sienkiewicz was a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection for the third consecutive season. He leads the team in scoring average this year with a career-best mark of 70.56. The senior has tallied a pair of runner-up finishes this season after finishing in second place a year ago at the NCAA Bryan Regional in Texas to help guide the Wildcats to their first postseason regional championship since 2006. He helped guide his team to a runner-up finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate by capping his top-10 performance by setting the American Dunes Golf Course record with a final round of 67. Sienkiewicz is on pace to end his collegiate career in the top 10 in program history in career scoring average.
Sommerhauser is posting the best season of his Arizona career in 2022-23 that includes a scoring average improvement of a full stroke. The junior posted Arizona's best finish in a pair of events this season, including the best finish of his career when he tied for second at the Thunderbird Collegiate three weeks ago.
Playing in every tournament of the season as a freshman, Pollo has played an integral part in Arizona's success this year. He was the individual co-champion of the Arizona NIT in March, propelling the Wildcats to the team title as well. The victory made him the first Arizona freshman to win a tournament since 2004. The Rocklin, California native earned Pac-12 Co-Golfer of the Week honors for his role in the Cats' titles at their home tournament. Pollo went on to be one of three Wildcats who tied for second at the Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix three weeks later.
Jakubcik has also been a regular fixture in head coach
Jim Anderson's lineup as a freshman this season, appearing in eight of the team's 11 tournaments. He was Arizona's top finisher in two tournaments this fall, including a top-five finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Michigan. The freshman also shined in the nationally-televised Western Intercollegiate after firing a blistering-low round of 66 on the first day.
The quartet of Cats, as well as the rest of the team, will return to action at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional in the Bay Area of California. The fourth-seeded Wildcats have qualified for NCAA Regionals in each of the last five seasons, which includes winning the NCAA Bryan Regional in Texas a year ago.
